1. About these terms

These terms govern use of the VAMAS-XML website and its browser-based conversion software (together, the “Service”). The Service is operated by SANISPECTRA LIMITED (“Sanispectra”, “we”, “us” or “our”), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12112853, whose registered office is 13 Lily Avenue, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE2 2SQ, United Kingdom.

You may use the Service only if you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not open or use the converter.

2. Independent status

VAMAS-XML is an independent project. This website is not an official website or product of VAMAS, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), any instrument manufacturer or any other standards body, research institution or commercial supplier. Reference to a name, standard, format, instrument or manufacturer is descriptive and does not imply sponsorship, approval or endorsement.

Microsoft and Microsoft Edge are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies. All other third-party product and company names are trademarks of their respective owners. References to third-party names are made solely to identify compatibility or describe relevant products and do not imply affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement.

3. Purpose and permitted use

The Service is intended to assist the transfer, preservation, inspection and controlled editing of VAMAS and VAMAS-XML data. Subject to these terms, you may use the Service for lawful scientific, educational, archival and commercial work.

The Service is not instrument-control software, a certified metrology or calibration service, a conformity-assessment service, or a substitute for competent scientific and professional judgement. It must not be used as the sole basis for a safety-critical, clinical, regulatory or other decision where an erroneous result could cause harm.

4. Software licences

The VAMAS-XML software is made available under its stated open-source licence. Bundled third-party components remain subject to their own licences and notices. These Website Terms govern access to and use of this hosted Service; they do not replace the applicable software licences.

5. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

• keeping secure, independent copies of the original VAMAS, XML and proprietary source files;
• reviewing conversion manifests, warnings and recovered or failed status reports;
• checking that outputs are complete and scientifically suitable before relying on them;
• using appropriate desktop tools where the number or size of files exceeds practical browser limits;
• having all rights and permissions required to process the files you select, including confidential, personal or intellectual-property material;
• complying with applicable law and your employer's, institution's or funder's data-management and information-security policies; and
• not attempting to disrupt, misuse, reverse-engineer the hosting infrastructure, or interfere with other users' access to the website.

You should not delete an original or working copy merely because a converted file was produced. A successful technical conversion does not by itself establish scientific correctness, authenticity, fitness for a particular purpose or compliance with a records policy.

6. Local processing and confidentiality

The browser converter is designed to process selected scientific files locally in the memory of your browser tab. It does not intentionally upload the content of those files to Sanispectra, Hostinger or a remote conversion service. Ordinary requests for website resources are nevertheless made to the hosting server and may be recorded in routine access and security logs, as explained in the Privacy Notice.

You remain responsible for deciding whether browser-based local processing is suitable under the confidentiality, export-control, contractual and information-security requirements that apply to your data and device.

7. Availability and changes

We may correct, update, suspend or withdraw any part of the Service without notice. We do not promise that the website will always be available, that it will support every historic or future file, or that it will remain compatible with every browser or device. A revised version of these terms will require a fresh acceptance where the website's acceptance-version identifier changes.

8. No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We give no express or implied warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, complete, accurate, compatible with a particular implementation, or fit for a particular purpose. Historic VAMAS files and third-party writers may contain ambiguities, unusual permitted structures and non-compliances that cannot always be recovered safely.

Nothing in these terms affects any warranty or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sanispectra and its directors, employees, contributors and licensors will not be liable for loss or corruption of data; loss of research time, opportunity, revenue, profit, business or anticipated savings; interruption of work; loss of reputation; or any indirect or consequential loss arising from access to, inability to access, or use of the Service.

You accept that preservation of the source files, backups and independent verification of converted outputs are reasonable and essential precautions when using scientific conversion software.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

10. Third-party websites

Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience. We do not control their content, availability, terms or privacy practices and are not responsible for them.

11. Ending access

You may stop using the Service at any time by closing the tab. We may restrict or end access where reasonably necessary to protect the Service, comply with law, or respond to misuse.

12. General provisions

If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of that right. These terms and the documents expressly referred to in them constitute the agreement concerning use of the hosted Service.

13. Governing law and courts

These terms and any non-contractual obligations arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction over disputes relating to the Service.
